What type od dog is protective good w/children and poss. won't shed but not nessesary?

german shepard's are GREAT with kids and very protective...don't be fooled by the fact they are used by cops alot, they are very intelligent and gentle with kids...yeah, they shed, but at 3 AM when the bad guys come in, your dog will have them under arrest and waiting for the cops by the time you get dressed to see what the heck they are barking at...yes, i had one, get a purebred and relax when you go out without the kids; they will be well taken care of at home...by the dog. (mine was named Mr. Bear, gosh i miss him)
