Would Muslims object if I wanted to build a 1st cl cathedral in the religious center of Mecca or Medina?

Symbolism means very much to Muslims, especially Muslim extremists. Time to squelch the plans for a huge mosque 2 blocks fom Ground Zero. Common sense needs to prevail.
