LGBT: Internet relationships: What happened the first time you met them?

I've never done it, but I remember about 8 years ago when my aunt met someone in person after communicating online and she came home really upset because he was unattractive. Obviously, it was incredibly shallow of her, but I guess that's something you have to be prepared for. She basically stopped talking to him after that, and since I was so young, I'm sure there was more to the story, but that's really all I can remember.
